Just slogging along, two colors and one frogging incident later... At least I have the edges set now... all four of them! So fudging to correct that counting error up there in the sewing machine is going to be a bit easier...at least until it's time to do the top-stitching.

First, the completion! My September Bead Journal piece is called "September Winds" --- not quite how I envisioned it but the leaf beads I had simply didn't work. And the color isn't really as stark as the photo make it appear... Because I spent so much tie this week on Bargello Club and Bead Journal Project, I didn't get a lot accomplished on "Sewing with Mama!" --- just a bit more of that drab grey background: rifestitch wrote on Sep 23, '11 LOVE September Winds - that is really pretty!! You are getting a lot done on Sewing - all that grey has to be monotonous!

I liked the colors (and note the pollen flying across the nose piece --- a certain irony, in my opinion)! Yeah, that grey is BORING! And would you believe it's all tweeded threads --- three different tweeds and one solid and I can barely make out the variation! and it would have been so much more interesting if it had been the blue the package suggested! But the background, except for that little bit that will be patterned, is pretty much done. Here's hoping all that embellishing top stitching will brighten it up a little... It's called "Little Wave" and was intended as a "book cover" but I made it slightly smaller, square instead of rectangular so it would be ornament size... The threads used are House of Embroidery "Harvest (#64), Gentle Arts "Forest Glade", Gentle Arts Avocado (# 0130), Gentle Arts Evergreen and Simply Sampler "Green Apple"... And no, it's not stitched on blue canvas. I used the cat bench in my window to get natural light and it's navy blue. which showed through the white canvas! ksteyskal wrote on Sep 17, '11 My favorite colors. Congrats on the finish! Very nice!
rifestitch wrote on Sep 18, '11 I really like that - those are my colors (well, the non-purple ones, anyway)! Here is where "Sewing With Mama" stands right now... wrinkles are due to my Q snaps ... I still haven't started on the September BJP or the September Bargello Club pieces. In fact, I think I need some beads for the BJP and Bargello Club still needs to have the threads selected, lahtough teh pattern adn canvas have arrived. ksteyskal wrote on Sep 16, '11 Looking very good!
See what I mean about color? Oh well, maybe it will all work out in the end... ksteyskal wrote on Sep 11, '11 Oh! It is going to be so beautiful! Don't give up on it, Carol.
thatyankstitches wrote on Sep 12, '11 ksteyskal said Oh! It is going to be so beautiful! Don't give up on it, Carol. Oh, I will! I don't need any more UFOs in my stash! I still have three really really HARD ones to finish in there, and I'm having a hard time convincing myself that I want to get one out and tackle it again as it is! Your suggestion about strips of fabric on those skimpy sides was a great one. I'm hunting up a couple of strips tonight and do that right away! Well, I did stitch some --- took a break on that ghastly "blue-grey" and put in the cream (which is really hard to see on this fabric), and found two more one-stitch errors! AAARGH. And the fabric looks like it was skimpily cut as well --- only an inch to spare on the left side! And my Q-snaps are NOT happy with so little fabric to hold on to--- tension is a real issue! This may be a kitting trend to save money (this is the second kit company I have found shorting me on fabric in the last year...) but I do NOT like it! I mean, they SAY the picture as 10 by 12 so why do they supply a SQUARE of fabric --- more than ample margins top and bottom, skimpy at the sides! From now on, I'm re-kitting with my own fabrics. My September Bargello Club piece arrived Tuesday (I need to kit that out) and I still have to stitch my BJP for September... ksteyskal wrote on Sep 9, '11 Oh, I am so sorry about the fabric woes! So frustrating, isn't it? I can see why you got tired ot the blue-gray, too. Can't remember if you posted a photo of the chart cover, but I'd like to see that
rifestitch wrote on Sep 9, '11 Well, it looks great, but I hear you on the fabric... I've only ever bought 1 kit, and it was fine, materials-wise, but I have heard a LOT of people say they just automatically swap out the fabric, either because of quality, type, or size issues... And if the kits are assembled outside the US, you may be coming across issues with conversion from the metric size... Keep on, it's looking great! meme4002 wrote on Sep 9, '11 It looks fabulous. I have to add that I am really sorry about the fabric shortage. What a bummer but it is doable yes? thatyankstitches wrote on Sep 10, '11 ksteyskal said Oh, I am so sorry about the fabric woes! If you check back to week 28, you can see the cover in the first photo of my project bag stash --- it's the one at the top. If I remember, I'll try to take a better photo and add it to this blog later... thatyankstitches wrote on Sep 10, '11 meme4002 saidIt looks fabulous. I have to add that I am really sorry about the fabric shortage. What a bummer but it is doable yes? It is doable, but it's really frustrating since I can't attach the edges of the fabric to the Q-snaps and still stitch to the picture's edge... just not enough fabric to grab on to and still have fabric surface free to stitch on so the tension is very wobbly at best! ksteyskal wrote on Sep 10, '11 thatyankstitches said It is doable, but it's really frustrating since I can't attache the edges of the fabric to the Q-snaps and still stitch to the picture's edge... just not enough fabric to grab on to and still have fabric surface free to stitch on so the tension is very wobbly at best! Carol, try sewing some strips of muslin or even scrap linen or aida fabric to the sides that are too narrow. "Sewing with Mama", designer Sandy Lynam Clough, kit by Candamar. It's not a big piece (only 10 by 12) but already it's giving me headaches. At least six sheets of instructions, two of which are top stitching. So many threads and then there are the blended threads (WHY do I hate blended threads so much, anyway). The frog has visited regularly and then, when I got to this point, I found out I had goofed way back in the black ONE stitch which throws off the left side of the sewing machine (can you tell that's a sewing machine?) ... and I had already put in three more colors before I found it out. SOOO... fudge time! What is more, this is another of those kits that shows a picture on the front that has no relation whatsoever with the actual colors that this is... for example, that "blue grey" in the upper right corner? It shows as a wedgewood blue in the photo. Irritating! Oh well, enough whingeing. Here's the picture: ksteyskal wrote on Sep 2, '11 I can see why this piece is difficult. Yes, it looks like a sewing machine already! How long have you been working on this piece? I look forward to future updates!
thatyankstitches wrote on Sep 2, '11, edited on Sep 2, '11 I've been working on it for about two weeks, off and on. Soon be off again since the September BJP and the September Bargello Club pieces are coming up as well... rifestitch wrote on Sep 2, '11 Well, despite the issues, it looks great - and I knew it was a sewing machine at the first glance!!! Hang in there, you'll get through it, and you'll love it on the other side :) |
