Learn a Stitch
Janet Perry had a series of tutorials on needlepoint stitches, with variations of basic stitches in little mini-stockings. These are my interpretations.

But I have also learned to read the instructions (sometimes it helps make sense of cryptic charts) and to go slow and count carefully, especially in areas where compensating stitches need to be made.
