Various things are getting in the way of stitching in the next few weeks, but I did manage to get the outlining of blocks 10 and 11 done on Friday night for "Save the Stitches": I also started the outline for the third Roll Your Own mandala, "Bride": My traveling needlepoint will be coming out of limbo for the next few weeks... This is where it stood since the las trip, a cruise back in 2011 and this is how far three strands of wool took me Sunday night (I blame the atrocious light in hotel rooms!):

2012: A Year of Challenges - week 32Aug 11, '12 8:46 AM for everyone I hate having to do this but I haven't found a new blog yet so until I do, I guess I'll just take my chances. I've been trying to save this blog as well as testing out three possible replacements (Tripod, Weebly and Ipernity are all failures so far... I can't do anything on Tripod due to disk limitation, Weebly will take my photo galleries and I can copy my blog text but I can't copy my blog photos, and Ipernity will only let me insert one photo per blog...) I didn't get much done this week. between a plumber fixing two leaks, another plumber checking out our HVAC for the regular annual check-up, a notary with papers to sign (we finally sold our "vacation" house - closing is the 14th!), picking up my fair entries on Wednesday (it was supposed to be Tuesday night but I slept through it), and quilt guild on Thursday, stitchery took a back seat this week. But I did accomplish a few things... I assembled the basic block for my Color Palette/Crazy Quilt Journal/Bead Journal Challenge for August: I have only half a border of the fourth color to do on "Birds of a Feather": And I finished (late, of course, but finished) a small sample of the Take A Stitch Tuesday week 32 (Cast On Stitch): delete replyrifestitch wrote on Aug 20 Nice work, all, and I'm with you on the "where to go?" front....
I'm making progress! Bargello Club is caught up. I'm only two projects behind in Stash Busters Club. I'm ready to do the embroidery and beading on the Crazy Quilt Square for Crazy Quilt Journal Challenge and Bead Journal Project (January) Take a Stitch Tuesday - week 2 is almost finished. Where are the pictures, you ask? Well, there aren't any --- for those aspects of this year's challenges --- YET!. But... Thursdays' Finish Frenzy was to finish any "bugs" in my unfinished finished pile. And there was only one --- my butterfly pillow from 2006. So here it is --- my butterfly pillow, a little wonky (I should have blocked it again) but finished! And I actually did get out "Sewing With Mama" and did some surface embellishment --- the red stitchery on the pillow sham and the outlines (very hard to see) on the tension regulator of the sewing machine: Thursday night, I went to quilt guild and won the door prize! A copy of the NQA magazine. Will have to recycle that next meeting as the last thing *I* need is a quilting magazine! Oh, and my husband and I cleared the house of Christmas decor yesterday (the outside is still lit up --- it's snowing and that's no fun for taking down lights!). A week late but I'm thinking it was still January 6 somewhere in the universe... I'm off to the Martin Luther King Day food drive in town. Wish me luck on the snowy roads. nancysxstitch wrote on Jan 14 Great progress on your projects! I love the Sewing with Mama... fun memories for me... and the butterflies are really brilliantly colored! Both are just beautiful, Carol!
I am finding out why I didn't like stitching on this piece. There is hardly a place where there are two stitches next too each other of the same color. The starts and stops are murder! But I'm progressing, slowly: And my beads came for the February BJP so this weekend, I will be beading, not stitching! Hope to finish both the February and March BJP masks! rifestitch wrote on Mar 11, '11 Sounds like my Scarlet Quince piece :) It's looking great, though! Can't wait to see your bead projects :)
I started this back when we were living in Saudi Arabia so that's 2001 or so. And it stalled out for a couple of reasons: a major miscount, I HATED the frame I was using, 9/11 happened, my husband needed medical care in the US, and we ended up moving in 2002! This is where it stood until last night: It's called "Harvest Sampler" from a book by Marie Barber called GIfts of Nature (Meredith Press, 1995, ISBN 0-696-20026-8). It's being stitched in DMC, two over two, on 18 ct Zweigert cream Aida so I'm going to have to be creative with those dratted quarter stitches! But Aida was all I could get in Saudi and I don't feel like starting over, even with the miscounts. I spent last night taking it off the stretcher bars, fitting it into Q-snaps, and ripping out the two pale gold pieces in the upper left and right --- turns out there are three different colors using similar codes and I misread the table! AAACK! Restitched in the appropriate color (which is a blend --- double AAACK!): festitch wrote on Mar 7, '11 Well, it's good for it to see the light of day :) Quarter stitches on aida; umm, yeah - that was all I could get when I started XStitching years ago - and TW'S Unicorn is on black aida, and I think her Fall Carousel is on 14 aida, or maybe fiddler's cloth. But then, the only needles I ever had were regular sewing sharps, so no issue getting right through the middle of each square :) Can't wait to see this one develop :)
With two completions this week, it was time to take out a UFO and get that finished. SO I picked the table linen set with the "Antique Rose" monogram by JanLynn. I had THOUGHT that only the napkins were UFOs but I discovered as I was sorting thread that I missed out on a line of back-stitching on all four place mats as well. No big deal but it is fiddly.
After only one day of working on them, one of the napkins is finished and another is nearly there (only five or six more crosses in two colors and the back-stitching to go). The top is the completed napkin; the bottom is the nearly finished one. Finished the San Man Original ornament last night but didn't have a chance to post it until now:
Well, I did it. I got up the courage to cut into that fabric for the "row of the month" challenge. So 0.4yds of 2.5" wide strips await my ginning up the courage to fire up the sewing machine and start stitching on the first 8 blocks...
So my very first Stash report: Used this Week: 0.4 yards Used year to Date: o.4 yards Added this Week: 0 yards Added Year to Date: 0 yards Net Used for 2010: 0.4 yards Meanwhile, I dug out a UFO San Man Originals Christmas ornament to finish up. This is what it looked like yesterday when I found it... I haven't picked out my next piece yet. These are the cross stitch UFOs in my craft room stash cupboard: Monogrammed napkins and table runner complete; four placemats to go... Kit by JanLynn called "Antique Rose": An Angel of Love with only her face done: one of four ornaments designed by Marie Barber in the "Just Cross Stitch" December 2002 issue (the other four, Life, Hope and Peace, haven't even been started) Another angel ("Celestial Angel", a Dimensions Gold kit designed by Laine Gordon) with only a little bit of robe done (and if I remember rightly, a counting error already!): A map of England and Wales (A Heritage Stitchcraft kit from the Britain in Stitches series by Susan Ryder) with only the landmarks to put in: An arbor from a book of patterns by Marie Barber called "Gifts of Nature" ("Harvest Sampler"; this is a big piece which needs a frame, and again, another counting error already): A pillow sham with a wreath of leaves and flowers excerpted from a chart called "Nature's Song" from that same Marie Barber book (awkward stitching inside that pre-sewn sham - my smallest hoop doesn't fit so it has to be done blindly, by hand: |
